About Guilford Wire
How we report and choose sources
Information as of Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026.
Guilford Wire covers the people who run Guilford County, Greensboro, High Point and the smaller towns, and what they do with public money and public trust. We pay close attention to the school board, the county commission and the city councils, because that's where the taxes are set and the contracts are signed.
What counts as a source
We publish what we can document, in roughly this order of weight:
- Public records: agendas and packets, minutes, meeting video, budgets, audits, contracts, court filings, election files.
- Official statements from governments, agencies and law enforcement, attributed as theirs.
- On-the-record reporting by established news outlets, credited by name and linked.
We don't publish rumor, anonymous social media claims or guesses about motive. When we raise a question in the Watchdog section, it is a question the record leaves open, and we say which record.
How we show our work
Every item links to where it came from. Story pages list all of their sources together at the bottom. Links to outlets that charge for access are marked Subscription. Each page shows the date its information was last checked. When we add up numbers from a document, such as contract change orders, we say so.
Public safety
We name people only if a law enforcement agency or a credible news outlet has named them. We say "charged," and a charge is not a conviction. We do not identify juveniles or victims of sexual crimes. We do not publish booking photos.
Youth sports
We report team results and league dates from schools, leagues, the NCHSAA and local news outlets. We name a young athlete only when a school, league or news outlet has already named them for an achievement, and we do not publish photos of minors.
Elections
We're nonpartisan. We don't endorse, we don't rank candidates, and we don't report polls as forecasts. Dates, sites and candidate lists come from the N.C. State Board of Elections and the Guilford County Board of Elections. Candidate links go to the candidates' own websites. Results are reported as unofficial until certified.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it and note the change on the page, with the date of the correction.
