A commissioner says the school bond won't cover the list
As Sumner Elementary hit a construction milestone, the call went out for more bond money.
September 10, 2026
Information as of Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026.
At a construction milestone for the new Sumner Elementary, a Guilford County commissioner said more money is needed to finish the projects promised in the school bond, WFMY reported.
WFMY previously reported that the district deferred about 30 projects because inflation and construction costs outran the $2 billion in bonds voters approved. The county's FY2027 budget continues to carry debt service for the school bonds.
Under the boundary plan the board adopted in June 2025, Southern Elementary closes once Allen Jay and Sumner reopen with larger capacity.
