Each year Guilford County sets aside close to $2 million for grants to local nonprofits. This year's pot is about $1.78 million, and the Rhino Times reported 218 applicants asked for a combined $10.8 million.
After a late change in state law dealing with race and gender in such awards, the county had to revise the process and have groups redo much of their applications. Commissioners reviewed the revised process at a Sept. 3 work session.
Nonprofits waiting on the money should watch upcoming commissioners agendas for the award list.
