Where election results come from, and when they're final

Results posted on election night come from the State Board of Elections results site and are unofficial. Absentee ballots that arrive on time and provisional ballots are counted in the days after. The county board certifies results at its canvass, and the State Board certifies statewide races after that.

Guilford Wire will report results from the State Board's site and will mark them unofficial until they are certified. We do not publish projections.
