Sheriff's Office buying drones, e-bikes and GPS darts with a $74,397 grant

Commissioners took up the federal JAG grant Oct. 1.

The Sheriff's Office plans to spend a $74,397 federal Justice Assistance Grant on drones ($52,800), electric bikes ($10,200), StarChase GPS vehicle tracking equipment ($9,105) and helmets ($2,400), the Rhino Times reported. The grant was on the commissioners' Oct. 1 agenda.

The Rhino Times also reported the Sheriff's DWI task force wrote 236 DWI citations in the first half of 2026.
